I first built a Web site in 1997 called www.greatplants.com. At the time, the web was only a buzz being created. Google didn’t exist. Imagine that. By now, we all know what the web has become and the need to integrate it into a marketing mix. In many cases, it is the business.

What's important in 2008.

As a creative professional, design means something to me. Good design is simply good design. It does not have to be complicated, but I personally believe in the old adage 'less is more'.

Keeping a web site current is very important today and my focus with the companies I work with is on communicating timely content for visitors and clients. Much of my work these days involves working with my clients to actively manage their web sites and content as well as their SEO content work.

A Web site must also rank well in search engine results for searches on specific keywords / phrases.

If your Web site doesn’t have a page appearing in the top 10 search engine result positions (SERPs) the chances of someone clicking on your listing, and actually visiting your site, drop dramatically.

Optimizing web sites for search engines for a better ranking in SERPs, is known as Search Engine Optimization and requires diligent maintenance.
